Country house. Returning to the past

[:en]Interior design does not always have to look towards the ultimate fashion and design trends. In fact it should not, because the purpose is not to imitate distant models, but to create a personal and meaningful ambiance which reflects the personality and passions of the inhabitants. What if the inhabitants are deeply connected to their roots and feel most comfortable in a setting which reminds them of their origins through an ambiance which is based on an interior design concept which highlights nostalgic hues? Then it is necessary to also look back towards the past.

Reflecting traits of the Romanian country house in interior design does not necessarily impose a rustic ambiance. Classical elements from Romanian architecture can be creatively involved in a modern interior design concept. Their blending can be done naturally, without exaggerations to create an interior which can reflect both simplicity and respect for traditions. The décor may incorporate a wood-burning tile stove and handcrafter furniture or pillars and beans. However, despite the increased decorative aspect of such elements the space can still be maintained simple and clean.
Metal and wood have the potential to provide the perfect environment for the display of both traditional and modern elements.

Among the elements which were used in traditional homes and are now also borrowed by more modern ones the following could be mentioned:
– White walls. Painting the house’s walls white is not unusual neither for modern, nor for traditional design, it helps brighten the space and maintain a clean ambiance;
– Traditional carpets. Handmade carpets are specific to an age and an environment insufficiently contaminated by industrialization. Nowadays such elements are valued for their uniqueness and for their potential to reflect diversity and to use high quality materials.
– Wooden furniture. Although appliances can reflect their modern origin in the shiny and supple stainless steel contours, solid wood furniture can act as a reminder of older times.
– Pottery. Modern homes usually display pottery as décor elements, however such objects can also be brought back to the center of kitchen specific activities (and chefs from around the world are known to use and recommend them already due to their particular beneficial properties)
– Organic materials. In a traditional home, there was no room for synthetic materials, this trend is also reflected in the homes of those who go for a healthy lifestyle.

The elements highlighted above are only some of those which can be incorporated in the interior design project of a home which is set to be modern, without ignoring the healthier traditional roots of its inhabitants.
